ANOTHER MUSEUM PIECE (MINUET)

Well…
With a quick trip inbetween to see The Astronauts at Club 85 and to record them unofficially for Mark

as he wanted to actually hear what they sounded like from the back of the room as opposed to through the desk,
and it would seem we have an invitation to Stevenage Museum’s preview of the music exhibition the night before the grand opening ?

The Astronauts gig was quite good but recording outside at festivals is one thing, recording inside when you have a lot more sound bouncing off the walls, especially with a loud band is difficult to say the least.
Unfortunately it wasn’t one of my better efforts and we decided to scrap it.
The new microphone needs a baffle of some description as it seems to be better than the minidisk it’s being recorded on, and picks up everything at such a volume that everything sounds distorted when it’s being played back.
Ok, at least now we know.
At some point I’ll have another go.
You don’t find these things out if you never try.

The museum preview is between 6 and 8pm and includes drinks and ‘nibbles’.
This is going to be quite interesting…
I’d burned off a few cd’s so that they had some music from some of the events and I knew Nuzz had also, but I didn’t know how they were going to feature them, or even if they would ?
Apparently, Emma and the After Dark gang had edited the film of the interview and that was running on a loop on a screen in one corner ?
That’s going to be strange, seeing yourself on the tv in the corner ?
Recognition comes at a price these days and I have always preferred to keep my own face.
It’s not like punting up a few photo’s on here…
After all, how many people in the near vicinity read it ?
There are a few, I know that much, but those people tend to know me anyway and they will stop me in the street or down at Club 85 if they want a chat about it, rather than posting comments.
Not that it matters one way or the other as my life tends to revolve around gigs and family and that’s pretty much what you’re reading about on here anyway, so…

I think what I’m going to do is just let the photographs tell the story…
Not because I’m lazy, but because they will do it a lot clearer than me writing about it.
It’s quite unfortunate that digital cameras weren’t invented when we were doing all this, but then, when would we have had the time to stop and take photo’s ?
When you’re involved in running a gig or part of the organisation running a gig, you never have the time.
Besides which…
I can always write a smart-arse caption !!!

Ok.
It’s 6pm at Stevenage Museum so let the viewing commence…

The entrance...

The welcoming mat...

'Can I help you Sir and  Madam ?'

Ok... So we're not the first...
Tell you what, though... I'm gonna be first in here... I'm starving...

I've just discovered Bill Monroe & his Bluegrass Boys played here in the mid '60's...

Battle of the Bands t-shirt ?   Mine didn't survive...

It's amazing, the whole list of names who played the place...

Chron Gen's first single no less...

Flaco poster to the left... I'm impressed.
Press photo of Steinar Albrigtsen & Tom Pacheco on l/h deck (see poster in the 'Adagio', that's the first part of the piece for those who aren't into musical terminology...)

Haddy in the '60's (not really)

Bloody hell !!!  Call that fashion ?    I suppose it was back then...
The Joker ?   I haven't started yet...
A few I remember...
Some classics in here...
The old 'Dansette' that we all mostly started with...
Know what ?   That is a pretty impressive list...

Shit !   Scared the crap out of me when they turned it on and I heard me from behind me... That was strange...
Brian's other half, Suzanne, Haddy & Brian

'Oi... Watch it...'
You know what... I'm glad I did this...
'kin 'ell !    Cabaret too... I thought it was just a display ?

Nuzz: 'There's more people here than we got to some of the gigs...'  Anji:  'I know... I was at some of them...'

Nuzz, me and Jim who booked me in for Flaco but moved before the gig so he missed it...
NEVER leave me an unattended mic'... 'There's a difference at MacDonalds, they've started selling smack...'
Nuzz, me and Emma and Jack from After Dark
The After Dark display wall
Suzanne and Haddy

Sign the book and then it's time to go...

And then it really was time to go or we'd all turn into pumpkins or some other dodgy vegetable...
We'd been there for the full two hours, had a chat, had a laugh, had a good reminisce about the 'old days'
(Well, it was twenty years ago... Give us a fucking break, will ya ?)
Oh, and eaten all the food as well.
And then it suddenly struck me...
I turned to Nuzz and said...
'They've got a working amp' and microphone... I don't suppose you fancy becoming a 'living exhibit' for an afternoon, if...'
The conversation tailed off as the penny dropped in Nuzz's mind (Ker-ching) and at that moment precisely,
Haddy took the picture.

''You mean... ?'
'Yep... We could do it... You know we could...'
'Leave it with me... I've just had an idea...'

You know what they say ?
Never trust a prankster...
